BEE CAVE, TEXAS –February 28th, 2024 – At its February 27th City Council meeting, the Bee Cave City Council voted unanimously to move forward with a request for proposals (RFP) for a workforce housing development within city limits.

This is the first step to creating the region’s first workforce housing development, which is intended to give teachers, police officers, retail managers and other vital members of the workforce more affordable housing opportunities in the Bee Cave region, where the median sales price, as of January of 2024, is $965,000.

“We have been researching workforce housing and visiting different beautiful developments over the last couple of years,” said Bee Cave Mayor Kara King. “Our residents know how valuable the workforce is to this community and we are happy to take this next step in making sure the people who come to work in Bee Cave can also afford to live here.”

As a sales-tax funded city, Bee Cave works closely with its business community to help pave the way for business success. At the Mayor’s business roundtable events, which are held every quarter, and at Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce gatherings, business owners in the region have expressed the need for concrete steps forward in workforce housing solutions.

The RFP invites developers to submit proposals outlining their strategies for developing workforce housing within Bee Cave. Emphasizing the need for creative approaches to affordability, accessibility, and sustainability, the Bee Cave Economic Development Corporation and the City Council seek proposals that align with the community's vision for inclusive growth. The RFP outlines specific criteria and requirements for proposals, including considerations for affordability, development concept, amenities plan, and green space utilization. It also encourages collaboration with the Development Corporation and the City.

Interested parties are invited to review the RFP in detail and submit their proposals by the specified deadline. A review committee will carefully evaluate all submissions and select proposals that best align with the city's goals and objectives for workforce housing. The City of Bee Cave is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community where all residents have access to quality housing options that meet their needs.

For more information about the Request for Proposal and how to submit a proposal, interested parties are encouraged to visit the city's official website page for proposals.
